No-exam life insurance
Eligibility for fast-track decisions, how the process operates, and what's different if you don't qualify.
A growing number of carriers now provide accelerated underwriting. For applicants meeting age and amount thresholds, the carriers render decisions using your application, pharmacy records, driving history, and similar information—no paramedical exam. Decisions can arrive within hours. Each quote here notes whether an exam is needed, might be needed, or isn't needed.
What it changes
Accelerated underwriting doesn't bypass the underwriting process. Your responses get verified, and if false answers later come to light, the carrier can challenge the policy in its first two years. Questions from the carrier's database checks might still result in an exam or lab request; at that stage, you decide whether to proceed.
Who tends to qualify
Usually age under approximately 60, applying for an amount within the carrier's fast-track limit, no serious health events, and no tobacco in a year or longer qualifies. Carriers occasionally substitute recent blood work from a doctor visit instead of ordering an exam.
If an exam becomes necessary, expect a 20- to 30-minute appointment at your home or workplace with a paramedical examiner—at no charge. Strong results frequently help rate-class outcomes for healthy applicants, making the exam potentially beneficial.
